Estimate your combined VA rating and your monthly payment using the VA’s official method and current 2026 rates. Runs entirely in your browser. No account, nothing stored.
1. Add your disability ratings
No ratings added yet. Add one above to see your combined rating.
2. Add your family & benefits
Dependents increase your payment only at 30% and above. SMC-K is an add-on for things like loss of use of a body part. Leave it at 0 if unsure.
Higher SMC levels (L through R, aid & attendance, housebound) replace the standard rate and depend on specific disabilities. This tool doesn’t estimate those. See SMC rates on VA.gov.
How VA math works
Why doesn’t 50% + 30% equal 80%?
The VA doesn’t add percentages. It uses a “whole person” method: a 50% rating leaves you 50% healthy, then 30% is taken from that remaining 50% (= 15%). So 50% and 30% combine to 65%, which rounds to 70%.
What is the bilateral factor?
If you have rated disabilities affecting both arms or both legs, the VA combines those together first, adds a 10% bonus to that subtotal, and then combines it with your other ratings. Mark each arm/leg rating with its side above and this calculator applies the factor for you.
How is the payment estimated?
We take your rounded combined rating and look up the VA’s 2026 compensation rate (effective December 1, 2025) for your dependents, then add any Aid & Attendance and SMC-K amounts. At 10 to 20%, dependents don’t change the amount. Always confirm your exact payment on VA.gov.
This calculator provides an estimate for educational purposes only and is not affiliated with the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs. Payment estimates use the VA’s 2026 rates (effective December 1, 2025) and cover the standard rating table plus Aid & Attendance and SMC-K; they do not reflect higher SMC levels, offsets, or other adjustments. Actual VA decisions and payments can differ. Always verify against your official VA decision and at va.gov, and for help with a claim work with a free VA-accredited representative.
